Dr Mara Sittampalam

Dr Mara Sittampalam is a highly regarded Consultant Neurologist with extensive expertise in general neurology and neuroinflammatory conditions. She offers specialist care in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, first seizures, tremor disorders, memory problems, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease.

Currently based at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust, Dr Sittampalam also runs a dedicated NHS clinic for pregnant women with epilepsy, providing tailored and safe care for complex neurological needs. She regularly offers second opinions for patients with suspected Functional Neurological Symptoms or medically unexplained symptoms, ensuring thorough assessment and clear guidance.

Dr Sittampalam studied Medicine at St Bartholomew’s and The Royal London School of Medicine and Dentistry, graduating in 2002. She completed her general medical training at several leading London teaching hospitals, and went on to undertake her specialist neurology training and clinical research fellowship across two major neuroscience centres in the South West Peninsula and Edinburgh.

Renowned for her compassionate and meticulous approach, Dr Sittampalam is widely praised by patients for her professionalism and supportive care. She is also active in clinical education, mentoring both medical and allied health professionals.

She is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, as well as the American, European, and British Neurological Associations, and the British Neuropsychiatry Association (BNPA).
